CLEVELAND MAGAZINE ARTICLE

Article from Cleveland Magazine

Flirting for Fun

On the road to love, Scott Gralnick is the guy driving the crappy car. But that hasn’t slowed his crusade to get us back to finding that someone special the old-fashioned way — you know, without using the Internet.

Scott Gralnick’s first rule for getting a girl is to conveniently forget to mention he’s written a book called How to Get a Girl in a ’95 Corolla.

The rest of us don’t have to worry about that. Unfortunately, few of us are as smooth as Beachwood’s 24-year-old “bachelor by choice.” Gralnick strolls into Caribou Coffee all wavy hair and two-day beard. Despite it being after 2 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon, he sincerely wishes me a good morning and asks how my Saturday night was. His, of course, was crazy.

He pulls out his camera and is disappointed. He’s already downloaded the pictures from last night. He doesn’t even want to tell me about it. He says I wouldn’t believe it.

But Gralnick has not hauled himself here to talk about his late-night exploits. He has real concerns. Mainly, that no one talks to one another anymore. His sister has even signed up with an online dating service. He’s disgusted.

“So many people rely on technology,” he says. “They don’t know how to meet people anymore. They want to text. They want to send Facebook messages. Technology has gone too far.”

Now, he’s on a mission to spread his alternative to online dating: talking to people in real life — like face-to-face — without e-mailing first. Gralnick says he knows that anyone over the age of 30 will laugh at his advice because it sounds so basic. Then again, if no one over the age of 30 used online dating, it wouldn’t be the industry it is today. Yes, all of us could use a refresher.

“Meeting [people] is not tough,” he says. “It’s about simple interactions, things that everyone can do: smile, make eye contact, say ‘hello,’ be kind, be sincere, be honest. But if it’s so easy, I guess more people would do it.”

And that’s why his yet-to-be-published book doesn’t belong in the self-help aisle. That’s too tame. No, this is really a full-throttle kick in the ass. Gralnick doesn’t come out and say it, but his argument goes like this: If a guy from Beachwood driving a rusted car made before Monica Lewinsky was an intern at the White House can meet women, what the hell is wrong with you?

So, I ask him to show me first-hand how it’s done. He approaches a blond woman pondering her choice of drinks. After a few minutes of talking, he walks away.

“Pink is her favorite color,” he reports. “I saw she had on a pink shirt, pink socks and a pink bracelet. I complimented her bracelet, and then we got to talking. She’s here to study.”

“But you didn’t get her phone number,” I protest.

“She’ll remember me,” he says.

“Shouldn’t we be at a bar?” I ask.

“Absolutely not,” he says. “Women know they’re going to get hit on at a bar. Who knows how many drinks she’s had? Who knows how many you’ve had? It’s just a lot more work.”

Yes, Gralnick understands that fear pushes people behind computer screens and rejection is harder to take when it’s face to face. But this isn’t asking that middle school crush to go with you; this is adulthood, damn it. Rejection is part of life.

Just like his love life, Gralnick hasn’t yet accepted an overture from a publisher that he says is interested in the book. He doesn’t love the idea of commitment. He has a wandering eye. He’s hoping to land a deal that’s a little more lucrative. He dreams of a movie someday.

Ironically, he’s been keeping people apprised of the book’s progress via a Facebook page, facebook.com/95corolla.

In the meantime, he’s already thinking about hitting the road next summer and taking his message on a cross-country trip.

“It’s trial and error,” he says of making his approach work for you. “Well, a lot of error. You have to fail and be willing to make a fool of yourself. But get used to being yourself. Never lie. And …”

“And?”

“She just looked at me,” Gralnick says. “The girl in pink. She pointed to me when she left with her friend. … She’ll remember me next time.”

Man was I living in a dream! About one year to when this all began I am now making some solid headway.

I am looking forward to where this is all going.  If you think you have some good ideas on the planning side of a Cross America Tour, Or have some Inside info on certain College campuses Please feeel free to post a comment below so I see. You can also contact me Through Facebook, Or email me.

Cleveland Magazine

Interview coming soon

cleveland-magazine

As I drank my morning/afternoon coffee preparing myself for the day, The phone rang next to me.  I leaned over to reach for it and saw a number which I have not seen in my phone before.  A gentleman on the other end asked ever so politly, “Is Scott Gralnick in?” Anytime someone ask for me and I answer I always answer in return, “Who may I ask is calling?” Little did I know it was Cleveland Magazine. I was taken back for a moment. Cleveland Magazine, What do they want? I know it could only have to do with the book.

Now I have a meeting with them this Sunday.

The way to higher ground

Bob Voturba

I like to stress how important net-working can be in the day to day life we live. As you might know by now, I frequent Caribou coffee quite a bit. One late afternoon I saw a gentlemen there with a joyful women at his side. He seemed to be happy. Not just normal happy but a happy which resonated through the roof. Of course being an outgoing person that I am, I walked right up to him and introduced myself.

“Hi, sorry for interrupting, but you both caught my attention” With truth and sincerity backing me up I then formed a great connection on the path which I have been journeying on for some time now.

Bob, like myself is on a journey. He is the founder for the orginization “One Million Acts Of Kindness.” He told me how he plans to go to college campus selling stickers and shirts for very cheap with slogans promoting peace and kindness.

With Kindness in mind I offered him my slogan from the past, “Peace….As It should be!” It would be great for shirts I said. He loved  the idea so much he then wanted to help me in return.

You know it, He knows certain talk show hosts! He told me he could get my book directly into there hands. Now I sit here today at Caribou knowing my book is in her hands with a chance to be on there show. Just from being kind and sincere in meeting a new person, and offering some help.  Click here for his web site.

Stand up Guy

Alberto Ibarretxe

A great man, Which a big heart, Who will do great things!

A great man, With a big heart, Who will do great things!

Facebook has turned out to be quite the marketing and PR tool. In the past few months I have been using FaceBook as away to meet people from all over the world, so when the book comes out those who buy it will be able to spread the word.

There has been a handle of very kind people on FaceBook (FB) who take the time and talk and share stories of life and are really excited for the book to come out.

Here is a quick BIO pulled straight Alberto’s Web site which you can go to by clicking his name up top.

Biography of a good man!

Alberto Ibarretxe was born at La Serena, Chile, on December 25, 1976.
He was raised in his native country until age 15 when he moved to Atlanta, GA., to attend an international school.
He later moved to Europe, initially intending to study Art History. He lived in Germany, Italy, and Spain, where he felt culturally closer to his native Chile.
While in Europe, he nurtured his passion for the arts and culture. But this lifestyle was somehow too similar to his country of origin. Moreover, Alberto had the ambition to make an international career. So he later decided to move to London where he worked at Alexander McQueen’s and Harrods.
After a year in London, he moved to NYC to start a career in photography. As soon as he got his first Hasselblad camera in his hands he started to shoot the reality as he perceives it.
He worked on assignments for the most prominent modeling agencies in NYC. Since he was based in TriBeCa he had the opportunity to meet Charlie Griffin, a true blue New-Yorker, who used to be Bruce Weber’s assistant in the ‘80’s.
Charlie Griffin had worked for most Conde Nast publications. He gave Alberto a few technical tricks in photography while working in his studio on Broadway. Charlie was actually pretty well-known in Manhattan and his studio had formerly been the apartment of Italian Vogue’s editor, Franca Sozzani, when she was living in NYC.
Then Alberto moved to Paris, where he is now based, to get closer to his relatives and enjoy the Parisian lifestyle.

Alberto’s work is described as timeless, with a hint of cinematographic sensuality, and yet profound when it comes to revealing the inner self and personality of his model.

He is fascinated by the visual arts and cinema, being a filmmaker as well.

You can also find him on FB. Just click the “here”!!!

Thank you once again Alberto for being a good guy, May the world learn much form you!

May the world open there eyes!

May the world open there eyes!

Young Talent!

.Local Artist.

Just met with a very talented young man named Ryan Elk.  He and I have been friends in passing for over a year now. One day in conversation he told me about art he does. Well, Little did I know how talented he is.  This afternoon Ryan and I sat down together at, You guessed it “Caribou”… We discussed how he could do some art for the book and get his name out there.  Now he has a copy of the Demo Book. After he reads it if he is inspired, will then see how I can incorporate his work into the book. I don’t think I’ll have a problem helping a stand up guy like Ryan out!

Click on a picture and let me know what you think?
